(A note from Roy Sceviour concerning the financial success of
our recent reunion. He sent a breakdown of the way the surplus was distributed to
the school and the aviation museum. The reunion proved to be a financial success as
well as a social success. The Gander committee are to be congratulated on the
success of all their work.(Jim))
Following is Roy's note.
Financially our reunion was a huge success. Just finished our close-out
meeting re: finance, last night - Wednesday. We will be making the following
presentations. All Bills Paid.
1) To Gander Academy Breakfast Program $1000.00
2) To Gander Academy Library Illiteracy Program $1000.00
3) To Gander Academy School Choir - re: their trip to Ottawa to represent Nfld at
Canada Day celebrations 2006 - sum of $2250.00. That is a total of $4250.00
to Gander Academy.
4) To Gander Aviation Museum $750.00.
Also, I would like to thank all people who attended the reunion and made it such
a smashing success. The events will live in my memory for a long time!
All the best
Roy Sceviour
Here as some of the responses received from that posting:
Not short of absolutely amazing. New meaning to the word sucess. Your crew
should take over the Governance of Canada if not all of North America.

Looks like the reunion was not only a great "sentimental" sucess but a financial one
as well.
This another sign of the great work done by you and the others on what was a
"far-fetched" idea two years ago. You pulled if off and have even left something
to the school - quite amazing when one considers thatyou managed to convince the
attendees many of whom came from over 2000, 3000 miles away!
We have to make sure we all stay in contact.
Have a good week!

It was a great event in every aspect and I will remember it always. Great job.
Wish I could relive it in slo' mo'.
Cheers
PS: Roy......maybe we could have reunion and ice a Gander old timers for a pick
up game!

Congratulations and a big thank you is in order for all those who worked on the
reunion. Not only was it a once in a life time event and thoroughly enjoyed by so
many but to think that we made such a great contribution to the children of
Gander Academy! I can’t believe it! Many of us here in Gander have grandchildren
who will benefit directly from this. I am very proud of all of you who worked so
hard and gave up so much of your time. I know this required a great deal of
organization and time consuming work. I’m so glad to have contributed just a
little by my attendance.
Thank you…. Thank you!

Hi Jim, thanks for the recent email regarding the finances as reported by Roy.
I have to say that I did not think that the mission of the reunion was to be a
financial success and I am aghast that so much extra money was distributed to
the school with no lasting memorial at the school. Especially since you had to
pay for the souvenir booklet and also then, we had to also.
It is one of those instances where money is given to a cause and it just sinks into
the woodwork with no long term goals or results. Oh well, we tried to tell them our
thoughts but they were just not prepared to listen.
If there was that much extra money it is too bad the registration was not reduced
and then more people might have come (not sure how they would have fit everyone
in - but that is another issue.
Anyway it is all water under the bridge now as far as I am concerned. We had
a good time at the reunion and we will continue to have our own mini-reunions
and be thankful that we have made contact with friends from the past.
I have seen Mary and Audrey, Joyce and Barb and am going to visit Faye in November.
Had hoped to get to Ontario this fall but it fell through in the end. Spring maybe.
How's the plans coming for the Great White North. Are you really going?
Michal (Millar) Crowe
We're so very pleased at the success and outcome of the financial situation of the
Gander reunion. Everyone should be proud and congratulated.

Thanks for the good news. It is wonderful that the Reunion was able to share so
much for such good causes. Thank you, again, for all your efforts.
I have some photos of my siblings and me in Gander. Is anyone collecting such things?
Included are photos of some old airport runway layouts from 1950-ish, and a photo of
the cover of the 1950 Canadian Telegraph phone book for Gander, along with a shot
of the page with my Dad's name and phone number.

Can’t express enought the good time I had at the reunion. The trip home was well
worth it to see so many friends I hadn’t seen for so many years. You guys did
a marvelous job of putting it together.
