The Hometown School Reunion
Copyright John Hollohan 2010
It’s the hometown school reunion and such a long, long, time Since my graduation here in nineteen fifty-nine You wonder where the time has gone since we were boys and girls Living here in Gander then, the crossroads of the world
Let’s take a little journey, a sentimental tour Back to those green felt buildings, left over from the war They became our schools and churches, and the only homes we knew Till a brand new town was started here in nineteen fifty-two
Chorus It sure is nice to be here on this journey back in time And relive all those memories that forever fill our minds Greet old friends, meet new ones, and have a laugh or two And make some new fond memories to take along with you
The Amalgamated and the Catholic were the only schools back then It didn’t matter where we went to pray, we grew up the best of friends There were jobs here at the airport waiting when we finished school For every plane that crosses the ocean then would stop here to re-fuel
The construction boom had started, a new terminal and town Homes, churches, schools and businesses sprung up all around Then came the long range jet planes, faster than all planes before With no need to stop and re-fuel in Gander any more
Chorus It sure is nice to be here on this journey back in time And relive all those memories that forever fill our minds Greet old friends, meet new ones, and have a laugh or two And make some new fond memories to take along with you
Thanks to all former students of the Gander schools back then Who planned and made it to Reunion Two Thousand and Ten Thanks for this chance to meet you once again here face to face For making Gander proud and this old world a better place
Let us pause now for a moment, for those no longer here Our sisters and our brothers, and the friends we loved so dear May their memories live forever, as we raise our glasses high Till we meet again up yonder at the crossroads in the sky
Chorus It sure is nice to be here on this journey back in time And relive all those memories that forever fill our minds Greet old friends, meet new ones, and have a laugh or two And make some new fond memories to take along with you Greet old friends, meet new ones, and have a laugh or two And make some new fond memories to take along with you
