Heber Roberts, Phys Ed Teacher, Gander Academy
ROBERTS, Heber Alexander — It is with great sadness that
we announce the passing of Heber Roberts, husband, father,
grandfather, great- grandfather, and friend to many. Heber
slipped peacefully away at his home in the presence of his
loving and adoring family on Tuesday, March 2, 2010. Heber
was 83 years old, but with the blessing of Rev. Tammy Hodge,
we celebrated his 84th birthday and his life with us a
little early. And thank you to all of Heber's family and
friends who have been supportive throughout his journey.
Predeceased by his brothers, Bruce (Margaret), Gus (Neta),
Bobs/Mark (Dorothy), Rex (Norma), Harry (Dorothy), and
sister, Irene (Tom). Leaving to mourn are his loving and
devoted wife, Dorothy Winnifred (Blackmore); son, David
(Cathy); daughters, Judy (Dwain), Cathy, Helen (Yale), and
Marilyn (Jean); grandchildren, Lucas, Michael, Marina,
Heather, Brandon, Daniel, and Salvatore; and very special
great-grandchildren, Ethan and Matteo. Also leaving to mourn
are sisters, Arthura/Thu (George) and Elizabeth/Margie
(Gordon); brother, Wilfred (Elizabeth/Libby), as well as a
large circle of family and friends. A very special thank you
for all their wonderful and compassionate care is extended
to Dr. Krista Thompson and staff from the St. Margaret's Bay
Medical Centre; Dr. Lori Wood, Heather Gage, and staff from
the Oncology Unit at the VG Hospital; Joe Pratt, Nursing
Coordinator, Lorna, Geralyn, and staff from the Palliative
Care Unit; Linda, Brandis, and staff from Northwood Home
Care; and Maureen Steiner and staff from the VON. Heber was
born on March 7, 1926, in Woody Point, Bonne Bay, N.L. Heber
was gifted in many ways and touched everyone that he met.
Heber was a Phys Ed teacher for 17 years; a life insurance
underwriter for 17 years with Great West Life and Maritime
Life in Gander, N.L.; an entrepreneur; a farmer; and a
loving and devoted husband, father, grandfather, and
great-grandfather. He was also an entertainer who brought
music and joy to everyone. We are sure Heber is saying
"Cheers to us all, have another swally", and wanting us to
celebrate his life. Cremation has taken place. A visitation
will be held in St. Nicholas Anglican Church, 29 Westwood
Blvd., Upper Tantallon, on Saturday, March 6, from 4-6 p.m.
The funeral service to celebrate Heber's life will be
officiated by Rev. Tammy Hodge in St. Nicholas Anglican
Church on Sunday, March 7, at 2 p.m., with a reception to
follow in the church. Donations in lieu of flowers can be
made to the Canadian Cancer Society. On-line condolences can
