The day after I finished school I
went to work with Seaboard and Western Airlines, along
with Bill Geange and Jon Newhook. December of 1960, I went to
work as a ticket agent with Maritime Central Airways in
Stephenville. June 1961, I came back to Gander and went to
work with Eastern Provincial Airways as a dispatcher. For the
next 5 years I spent 6 months in Gander and 6 months in
Pasadena each year with EPA.
In 1964, I married Hilda
Mcleod of Pasadena and, in 1966, went to Goose Bay. In
1973, we came back to Gander with EPA. Worked with EPA
until 1984, when the whole operation moved to Halifax.
Hilda and I did not see any future in Halifax so we remained
in Gander and eventually operated four small businesses,
(Hallmark card and gift store, Ultramar Gas Bar, magazine
distributor (NFLD Herald), and a small lottery centre
in the Fraser Mall. In 1993, sold the card and gift store,
1994 we got out of the Gas business, and in Dec/2000, sold
the lottery centre. I still distribute the Herald,
which takes about 4 hours per week.
Son Wayne now
lives in Whitby, Ont. with wife, Nancy, and Michael (7 yrs
old) and Sarah (4 yrs old). Wayne works with Ontario
Hydro. Daughter Dana lives in Gander and is married to Darren
Wicks. Dana works for the provincial government and is
expecting her first child in October. Daughter Tina lives in
Gander and is married to Mike Foley.Tina works in a Day
Care Centre and has a little darling, Isabella, who is 16
months old.........
