Gerry Smith - Class of 1961

When I was at the school renuion I was invited to the home of my best friend, Gerry Smith, from my earliest days in Gander.  I was told there that Gerry was very ill with throat cancer.  He fought the battle with the cancer for the next few years but sadly I was advised that he died early yesterday morning.  His last 3 weeks were very hard on him and his family.  I pass this along for those who might not have heard the news.
   Gerry was a true friend and I will miss him but I will remember lots of good memories that we shared together.  
  Ken Barnes, remember when Gerry & I took you skiing on the run to Gander lake in  a snowstorm to teach you how to ski.  It was something I remember as if it was yesterday.
   Gerry has gone to a better place....
