Note that there is no Army Side in the graphic display. It has been suggest the reason for this is the graphic may have been taken from the original Gander layout plan. The Army side really was an anti aircraft artillery camp and was more of an after thought when some one  might have said " what happens if .....?".The Army Side was never a part of the original plan. Also suggested is they put the AA camp in that particular spot because a road had already been built in that direction to access the signals equipment.  (Signals Road). The road also led to the aircraft observation towers erected on the bogs to the east of the Army Side that gave an omni view of the area.
